DESMOND KATAMILA
Desmond Katamila, better known by his stage name, Desmond, is an award winning, independent Hip Hop, R&B and Afrobeats musician from Namibia, Africa. Before he changed his name to Desmond, he was affectionately known as Lil D and he gave many Namibians memorable memories through his music.
Desmond Katamila became an overnight sensation for his R&B inspired singing and his dance moves. He is well known for hit songs such as Girl Like mine featured by D Jay and KK's We Go Hard. The artist went through a name change and rebranding strategy back in 2015. He wanted to reinvent himself and make music for a much more mature audience.
He won various awards after his name change at the Namibia Annual Music Awards (NAMAs) alongside his frequent collaborator KK, in 2016 they walked away with the Best Video Award.
His music career started when he met the late Julius Spiegel, better known by his prominent producer name, Eclipse, with whom he recorded his first song and debut, titled “On Top”, which featured on the Coca-side-of-life Mix Show with A-one in America.
Desmond found himself featuring on many artists’ songs following his first single due to his talent which led the song with rapper D-Jay “Girl like Mine”, which earned them an award at the annual
Sanlam Namibian Music Awards in 2008. The song was viewed as one of the songs that transformed the Hip Hop & R&B scene in the Namibian music industry.
